Fashion collaborations can risk feeling opportunistic and disingenuous. With an official Crocs x Fortnite product launch on the horizon, we needed to avoid that. To show Fortnite players that this collab came from the heart, we needed to establish Crocs in Fortnite culture before that to ensure the launch felt authentic and for the community.
We were set the task of embedding Crocs into the Fortnite community. To do this properly, completely from scratch, takes time. Players need to see that the brand is in it for the long run. So, we harnessed the power of Metavision Network to chart out 3 months of guest appearances in some of Fortnite's most popular maps. Making appearances in indie classics from BonnieKiwi, craft-defining experiences from Beyond Creative, and to the huge audiences of GoodGamers.
The activation had to work across multiple gametypes, and had to be easy for a wide range of creators to implement. So we tapped into the brand new Fortnite character device to create the first branded character based campaign on Fortnite. We made Switchbbitz, a friendly fellow on a tour of Fortnite, in a package that any creator could take and quickly implement in their map. Ranging from Switchbbitz lending players a helping hand, to a planet sized Switchbbitz lifting a fan favourite Fortnite map into space.
